Actually just had a hefeweizen tonight that I based on Widmer's
Mine was:
4lb's Wheat
4lb's Pale
.75lb Munich
.50lb Crystal 40
I'm not an expert but it was fairly close, maybe a little heavy on the munich/crystal.
Thanks Weizen, I've allways wondered if you could harvest the yeast from Widmer.
I've done an IPA with all the hops in the last 30 minutes calculated IBU's still came out to 65.
It has huge hop flavor, maybe even too much for the amount of bitterness. But that might just be cause my hop choice was on the citrus side.
That is ridiculous, I've never heard of any company changing their Accounts Payable terms to suppliers to something that crazy. I would love to see all the suppliers band together and jack up their prices to Budweiser, but it's probably not going to happen.
Another reason to hate Budweiser...
Sounds like you have a really expensive LHBS. My extract beers have ranged from $20 (Hefe) all the way to $55 (IIPA with 8oz of hops).
Are you using Dry or Liquid extract? Liquid is usually much cheaper.
Dry of liquid Yeast?
I don't know if you got a bad one or what. But it definitely doesn't taste like they used a belgian yeast. It's a pretty straight forward American IIPA.
Yea, they had that article at the brewery. It's a great read and shows how a lot of other Breweries that claim 100+IBU's are full of it. It's pretty sweet, Deschutes has a lab in the brewery to make sure everything is legit.
