I did a mini mash. It's easy and requires no extra equiptment. I just had to hold the temperature steady for a while with a huge grain bag in there. I would recommend a strainer that fits on top of your brew pot without having to hold it.
That looks like a sweet kit. Maybe I'll try that one next. I did my first mini mash kit from AHS. More grain and less extract should make a better beer. I've been told no extra equipment is necessary, but a colander that can sit on top of your boil pot makes it a lot easier. I had to hold my too...
I didn't use the alcohol boost with this one. By my hydrometer readings the ABV was in the high nines. I gave one to my friends dad and he said it was the best IPA he has tried. He drinks a lot of microbrew. I thought he was just being nice saying that, but my friend and his brother say he...
It is going to be really hard to measure those out properly. Too much and you risk bottle bombs. Too little and your beer will be flat. Be careful and good luck.
I know i saw a measuring spoon that measured out the correct amount for 12, 16 or 22 oz bottles. I think it was at austin homebrew but i don't see it there now.
I'm pretty sure when the handle for the shutoff valve is inline with the pipe it is open and when it is 90 degrees to the pipe it is off. That's how a valve for natural gas works and I think it's the same. Try to blow thru it in both positions and you'll know for sure.
I think you have it...
Good advice from Yooper and cubbies. I use whirlfloc and a kitchen sink ice bath on my 2 1/2 gallon boils and they are pretty clear. I reach pitching temp in 16-18 minutes using 16 lbs of ice and some cold water. I stir the wort and agitate the ice every couple of minutes.
I asked the same question a couple of weeks ago. It's 2 1/2 gallon boil no extra equipment. I hear the results are much better than extract alone. I'm going to do one from AHS my next brew.
A full boil is boiling the whole batch (usually 5 gallons) instead of a partial boil and topping off up...
Thanks for the suggestions on the paint and the kill a watt device. I do like the retro look it has. I'm thinking a nice sanding and a white paint job. I'm undecided on the collar. Either I'll stain it or paint it white. This is going to be a slow going project with xmas coming up. I'm only...
