I'm aware it's an old post. I was just posting my recent result with the brew - and commenting that things appear a little hairy.

Sorry for the delayed response... and lack of photo. I had a solid connecting pipe between the FB and valve (so no crushing weight issues). Became concerned - didn't want a repeat - so, my last couple of brews have been a modified BIAB method. I use my same mashtun set-up, but as a precaution...

I brewed this beer on 1/21 (3 weeks ago). I left it in primary for 1 week, then transferred to secondary. I've been wanting to bottle, but it is still rolling (as viewed in the glass carboy) -- so much off-gassing that the airlock is bubbling every 10 seconds. I've never seen anything so...

So, I made an MLT out of a 10 Gallon Round Rubbermaid cooler (from Home Depot). Bought a 1/2" false bottom kit, bought a large silicone washer, and can't get a seal around the threads -- the I/D of the washer is 3/4, I think (but is all they had). I tighten everything up, but get a small leak...

I ran it with water a few times prior to brewing - the only difference would have been hot water, versus room temp. The grain bill was just over 10lbs - with some wheat, but mostly 2-row. After I eventually got things flowing (in a kettle with a filter screen), the grain bed was pretty...

The false bottom is a domed one, and the fitting at the end of the elbow (under the FB) has notches in it, so it shouldn't create a vacuum with the bottom...?

Had the lid off, and witnessed the grain bubbling when I blew in through the hose. I was thinking the grain might have been milled too fine. But, when I blew in, and disturbed the bed, wouldn't that free up something?

I bought one of the false bottom kits for a 10 gallon round cooler. The pipe between the false bottom and the valve was solid SS. Checked it for leaks, and was ready to brew... When I completed my mash, I opened the valve, got a few ounces of clear water, then nothing. Opened, closed, opened...

Think I was googling - Stainless versus Aluminum. Needless to say, it led me here!

Just started brewing -- cracked open a "starter kit" I received as a gift, and am now hooked. First batch was a colossal failure. Opened my first bottle, and had a science experiment - looked like a two liter of Coke with a Mentos dropped in. lol Second batch was a fantastic amber ale...
