    Culturing yeast?

    Ale yeast's can go for 10 or more generations and still be good. But i wouldnt go more than that for a lagering yeast, they tend to get lazy.

    Sounds like your not getting a good yield from your grain. Next time try stopping your runoff before your grain hits air, and stir the mash.     How to measure Pre-Boil Gravity

    Use a thief to snag a sample out, run the outside of the thief under cold water to get it down closer to 20 degrees C. Plop your hydro in and dump that sample back the pot! All gonna get boiled anyhow
