    Forgive my stupid question "water"

I live in Minnesota, my water is drinkable but is treated by a municipal water treatment system. I can't quite pinpoint the taste that I am tasting, I will keep trying, it may take a few more.

    Forgive my stupid question "water"

I wish I figured this out earlier but all of my beers are still drinkable, but many have the same odd taste. Since beer is mostly water I figured that is what it has to be. The stouts and porters must hide the taste because I can taste it in all of the others I have made. thanks for help all.

    Forgive my stupid question "water"

Water tastes o/k there is a smell of clorine. I may have to try a batch I have made before with filtered or boiled water. Thanks

    Forgive my stupid question "water"

How important is it to have good water for brewing? I have made a few batches and am starting to notice a taste pattern that I don't care for I have been using city tap water. My best beers so far have been dark more forgiving beers. Should I be buying bottled water for brewing? How about...

    Man, I love Apfelwein

Sorry, but with so many pages to review I just thought I would ask the questions. 1. Can I pitch a new batch on the old yeast cake? 2. I purchased some lactose how much should I use for the 5 gallons to sweeten? I checked the gravity yesterday SWMBO really liked it uncarbonated with 1/2...

    Considering Full Boils, any benifits?

I am a new extract brewer who is now considering going to full boils. Is there any benifits to this, I know it will require more equipment, is there a significant difference in taste by going to this next step? I understand I will need to adjust my recipes for the full boil. Any help would...

    reusing yeast

Just did that last night for the first time. Both the same kind of beer, first batch did well and ended with a nice low gravity. Second, which was pitched on top of the old yeast cake took off like it was going nuts. I had to put a blow off tube on after only 3 hours. Good luck

    NOOB Question

I have a stupid question, but I have to ask. I am getting ready to go to full boils. I am looking at purchasing a turkey fryer with a stainless kettle. Question is, can I use this pot for both brewing, and cooking turkeys, and fish with out getting some off flavors in the beer? I would think...

Hob Goblin - Extract and Steep.

Orfy, thanks once again for the recipe, you did tell me to check your conversion from KG to Ounces, I did not. I was going to ask what to make to pitch on top of this yeast cake but I think I will make your recipe again. Mine was much lighter in color than you said it would be, so I checked...

Hob Goblin - Extract and Steep.

I made Orfy's partial boil extract recipie today, I ended up with an OG of 1.052, not quite the 1.056 in the recipie but close. Can't wait to try it. Thanks for sharing the recipie, and converting the formula.

    Final Gravity

    Final Gravity

Thanks, I will let it sit for a few more days in the primary. I did try it tonight after checking the gravity, it is tasting gooood. Good luck with your stout.

    Final Gravity

Yeast was Wyeast #2112 California lager yeast. The kit says apparent attenuation: 67 - 71% optimum temp 56 - 68. Temps have been around 62-64 in my basement. Thanks for the reply,

    Final Gravity

I have a Baltic Porter NB Extract kit, it has been in the primary for 9 days. Original gravity was 1071, gravity now is 1026. My plan is to leave it for a 4 more days then put in clearing carboy and leave it there for a 2 to 3 weeks. What can I expect for a final gravity, the kits do not say...
