    I did think about various different PVC/conduit elbow type options, but could never find a way to reliably ground it and attach the wires inside without them getting all twisted up. Certainly there are many ways to solve this problem, though!

    I don't have anything to back that up. I do know that the particular unions I have thread perfectly on to the elements I used (camco 5500 ULD). If you wanted to be safer, the 1" NPS lock nuts would work just as well (and would be cheaper, probably). I just happened to the unions lying around!
