    Birthday Tap Handle

Hello fellow Home brewers, I want to get my friend a custom Tap handle with his Initials in it, for his birthday. I was hoping this wonderful community can give me some suggestions where to look. If i was a better craftsman i would try and make one myself, but most of my DIY projects have...

Stick with extract for fun and beer

I moved out of my parents house (where i had the room to do AG) into an apartment. I have been enjoying the simplicity and ease of extract brewing, but i still miss my mash tun sometimes.

5 1 gallon batch suggestions for a stout

Which peppers you choose and how much, and for how long all effect spiciness. I say, guess, and then see how you like it. Adjust from there.

5 1 gallon batch suggestions for a stout

I used a half ounce of peppers, one whole vanila bean, and one stick of cinnamon. As for steaming the peppers, i didn't but should have. it just makes sure there are no freeloaders (wild yeast and bacteria) that are gonna get to the beer. I think just steam them like vegetables. Put them in a...

how long will my beer keep

But what about freshness of hop aroma and flavor? isn't that what makes wet hopped ales so amazing? A beer recently brewed, though the sugars and alcohols might still develop, will have a tremendous hop profile.

A german guy walks into the bar...

That was really what tickled me about the whole interaction. He was ordering light lagers, and complaining about light lagers. which reminds me...Are there any German ales? I have been to a few german beer halls, and it seems like they are all lagers, with an occasional whit. I enjoy...

    Equipment upgrade

I agree. Yeast starters will improve the beer a whole bunch. There is a great DIY stirplate thread. For ~30 bucks, you can make one, and its a fun project.

A german guy walks into the bar...

I was hanging out at a bar in NYC waiting for my date to arrive, and enjoying a brooklyn lager. While i'm there, a german fellow comes to the bar to order another round of beers for him and his friends. On tap was brooklyn lager, brooklyn winter, magic hat #9, stela, guiness, and sixpoint sweet...

getting a kit for christmas .. need some advice

First batch is exciting. Good luck. I would +1 on sanitation. Make sure to clean the bottles well, and also make sure the wort is cool enough when you pitch the yeast. My first batch i got impatient.
