    Immersion Chiller Question

After some reading all I found was going under the sink and creating a 'T' or someone mentioned using the sprayer. My sprayer doesn't stop the flow of water and is therefore limited and I would much rather attach to the faucet if I could...anyone, bueller?

    Immersion Chiller Question

Okay, so i built an immersion chiller the other day which I think turned out really well. I wrapped it around a mini keg that you can buy in the beer section and then wrapped the remaining tubing to form a large base / plate, figuring most of the heat is on the bottom of the kettle where the...

How much grain can my mash/lauter tun hold?

Question about the "Can I mash it," if I use a Coleman 70Q cooler to mash in, I could in theory use 45lbs of grain at 1.25q / lb? Is that right?

    Keeping a used keg (Iowa)

Yeah I was typing "keeping a keg deposit" hoping to trigger something. After digging through a few threads, I found links to the heart of the ethics. I am actually good friends with the owner of a bar here in town and will talk to her and see what she does when kegs are rejected. Probably get...

    Keeping a used keg (Iowa)

I did search, but the search function only takes single words and as you would imagine "keg" is a pretty common term used around here... I completely understand the debate of stealing after I did a google search and got a few results. The only thing that I would counter it with is why can't...

    Keeping a used keg (Iowa)

Okay so I really want to start piecing together a single tier brewstand and need some kegs to make the keggles. I see them on various sites, occasionally, for $50, but couldn't I just buy a keg of swill, feed the hogs and keep the keg for the $30 deposit? It seems too logical. Also in Iowa we...

    When to clear

I transferred my wine to the secondary last Friday when the SG was at 1.000. My instructions said to move it when it was at or below 1.010. The next step said to wait 10 days and check the SG. If it is at or below .998 (or .996, can't remember) then add the next set of chemicals. My...

Starting my first brew in t-minus 7 hours

Next step, next question...So I transferred over to the secondary yesterday and have a few questions. Now that I am in the carboy, I can see the layer of trub at the bottom. I was careful not to siphon too much, but I have about a 1/2" - 3/4" layer at the bottom unfortunately. When I look at...

    racking to a secondary? really?

Is it natural to have some large floaties in the primary before transferring to the secondary? After I transferred there is definitely less, but will this all fallout or should I plan on gelatin? I used irish moss extract in the boil, but I guess I figured it would be clearer from the beginning.

Starting my first brew in t-minus 7 hours

Okay, but should I move it to the secondary even though it isn't at its FG or wait until it drops to within that range?

Starting my first brew in t-minus 7 hours

Does it matter when I transfer to the primary to the secondary? My airlock has stopped bubbling, but my SG is at 1.014 with the final SG supposed to be at .010-.012. If I transfer over to the secondary, will this still come down or should I wait for the SG to settle within that range and just...

Starting my first brew in t-minus 7 hours

Okay so I replaced the blow off tube with an airlock yesterday and it was bubbling at a good pace. Today I noticed the bubbling slowed to about once every 12-15 seconds so I thought I would check the SG. It was 1.016 and the finishing gravity said .010-.012. I will check again for the next...
