Never realized how important fermentation temps are...

So I brewed the AHS sweet stout about 4 weeks ago and used 12 grams of Munton's dry yeast (OG-1.60). The batch fermented at a pretty constant temp of 65 degrees (stick on thermometer said 66)....and after 4 days it showed 1.30 (target is 1.22). I then checked again a week later, and still...

AHS Sweet Stout - What happened?

I brewed this kit a couple weeks ago...and after 5 days the FG was 1.28...and four days latter it is still 1.28 (and I only used 2/3 of the bag of lactose). I used Munton's Dry-yeast (which after this 2nd batch of high FG beer might be my last use of it)....is there anything I can do to try to...

    Glass Cooktops

I have a glass stovetop and always use pots that are bigger then the heating area....for brewing and just regular cooking. Never had a problem.

AHS Sweet Stout - What happened?

Do you think this kit would work with the dry yeast, or because of the high gravity(and I might add the 1% alcohol boost), is liquid yeast the way to go?

AHS Sweet Stout - What happened?

I've had my eye on this kit for a while and am going to pick it up in the next week or two (but use the dry yeast). Is it me or does a pound of lactose seem like a lot? Would there be any problem with only using a half of that? Definetly let us know how this tastes when all is said and done!

Any tips to getting all the beer out of the carboy?

Did the bottling today of my first brew. Used the siphon to transfer from the glass carboy to the bottling bucket but there was a ton of sediment in the bottom of the carboy....I tried to tilt the carboy to the side so that I could get the last 3/4 of a gallon out but that just aggravated the...

My 2nd brew...good stout ingredient kit?

Just started looking at the Austin Hombrew kits. What do you think about this sweet stout? http://www.austinhomebrew.com/product_info.php?cPath=178_452_42_159&products_id=313 And I might just throw in this cheap promotional amber ale they have ($20!)-...

    Final Gravity a little high?

For the first brew I did a True Brew Canadian Ale kit (Muntons dry yeast)....pitched the yeast at 75 degrees...been fermenting between 64-66 degrees. Bubbled like crazy for 48 hours then basically stopped. OG came in right where it was suppose to (1.43) but I checked the final gravity a week...

My 2nd brew...good stout ingredient kit?

Got started with a True Brew Canadian Ale kit and for the 2nd brew I want to do a stout and just want the ease of it in kit form. My preference on taste: I like Guiness but I want something that is slightly less filling (if at all possible!) and slightly less bitter. I LOVE Sam Adams Cream...

Fermentation slowed after 36 hrs - Problem?

good to hear that is normal, i used the same dry yeast for my first batch this weekend in a True Brew Canadian Ale ingredient kit-same thing happened. Pretty active bubbles the first 48 hours or so and then rarely any at all.

Making the first brew this weekend...

This website is great! And when I say lock, I mean the fermentation lock that allows gases to escape (my kit does not come with one of the blow off tubes). So, after getting about 1-2 gallons of water boiling, I dump in the malt extract (the can and dry powder) as well as the hops and let her...

Making the first brew this weekend...

Well between the equipment kit my fiance bought me, the "Joy of Home Brewing" Book (the beginners section), and the True-Brew ingredient kit for Canadian ale, there seems to be alot of conflicting information. So here is a few questions I have so I make sure I can do this right the first time...
