    Dumped 3 batches in a row ☹ Can’t figure out what’s wrong.

I'm going to second the idea of doing the beer with a new yeast. I would suggest LalBrew dry Voss. I find this yeast to be very predictable. I ferment at 40c with it and don't make a starter. It will probably be done in two days. You can do a half batch and use the full packet. That's an over...

Why not ferment in boil vessel?

I"ve done it with my Digiboil and LalBrew Voss. I've even used the Digibrew to maintain the fermentation temp (which is quite high with Voss). This vessel heats from below so if there is a lot of trub that can interfere with heating. Also, I do "no chill" without a cube. Ive put plastic wrap...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

My worry is the higher watt rating of the Blichmann (2000 vs 1500) since I would plan to wire it directly in to see if it would turn on at appropriate times. The plan for the zymatic is to totally restructure it to make all problem area immediately accessible. It will be open frame with plenty...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Mike, what do you think of replacing the zymatic heater AND the heat exchanger with a 120V Blichmann RIMS Rocket?

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Mike is going to be the expert here having torn down his machines several times. But, as I understand it, the glycol is directly heated and the wort is heated indirectly as the glycol and the wort pass through a plate heat exchanger.

    Comparing different automated systems

I’m definitely zeroing-in on BIAB but not sure I want the automation. I went from partial mash to the Zymatic and I feel the need for a full pendulum swing back to simplicity. A lot of good comments for the BB here. It seems very modular with a certain amount of “bring your own” so maybe I can...

    PicoBrew Zymatic

Hey Mike, Did you ever send off that sample to the lab? Just curious.

    Comparing different automated systems

Thanks for the info Mike. Pondering my Zymatic and it’s issues, it really was a cool concept and worked really well for me for a few brews, but once it started having problems they were fairly legendary. I have my doubts about the new Z too. I just think that the heat exchanger concept (aka...

    Robobrew regrets?

Thanks Brewdogbrew. I appreciate you spending the time detailing this. I haven’t bought yet ...probably not for another month since I am moving. I’m a real minimalist. Most of my brews going forward will likely be no-boil, no-sparge, and no-chill. I’m still thinking about it and always grateful...

First Brew on Robobrew V3 (no pump) Experience

jimfire85, Why don’t you use the Robobrew for the full process anymore? Were you finding it too slow to get up to boil? Any other reason?

First Brew on Robobrew V3 (no pump) Experience

Thanks hopjuice for the tips. I really think conditioning is a key component. I’m looking at the Robobrew without the pump. I’m a fan of simple and “Zen”. I’m ok with stirring and a big fan of gravity (as in the Earth’s), so I think I will skip the pump.

    Comparing different automated systems

Applescrap, check out the Zymatic thread in the electric brewing section. You will get a sense what I am talking about. The new “Z” may be fairing better. There is a thread for that too.

    Comparing different automated systems

I've own the Picobrew Zymatic. It is a great machine when it works. There are issues with glycol loss leading to heats not going well. The cleanup of the user serviceable parts is easy. It's the non user serviceable parts that are difficult as the Zymatic is built on a "black mystery box" model...

    Robobrew regrets?

Howdy DWB, I’m thinking of the Robobrew without the pump. I like things simple. Without the pump, would you say that mainly what I’m giving up is the ability to skip stirring?
