    Tyler Texas

Well, I don't think Tyler has much as its relatively small. My suggestion is to do a weekend trip to Austin. Austin is about 4 hours away from Tyler. Austin Homebrew Supply is one of the best in the country and a perfect place to stock up on supplies. You could hit up some of the breweries...

    High gravity extract brews

Hey guys, I am interested in brewing an Imperial Stout, but I really only have the equipment for a extract brew. I did some research and there seems to be minimal amounts of solid high ABV/gravity extract recipes out there. Is there a reason? I can imagine it maybe not coming out tasting...

I am curious as to how this turned out for you? And also for the OP... I am trying to figure out why you don't see too many Imperial Stout extract recipes?

    Dogfish Head 90/60

I love the 60 min and I am hit and miss on the 90 min. Sometimes the 90 min just strikes me as overly sweet, and I DO NOT like really sweet beers. The 120 min was just plain gross IMO.

    Creating a Imperial Pumpkin Stout

Yeah, I wasn't going to include the pumpkins in the mash. I was going to include them in the 60 min boil because that appears to be what other recipes have called for...

    Creating a Imperial Pumpkin Stout

I am doing this as a partial mash... I intended to mash @ about 154 for 60 minutes and then sparge with about 2 gallons of water making close to 3.25 gallons for my boil. So, how does that change things? I think I only have a 5 gallon kettle, so that will probably change things. I am not...

    Creating a Imperial Pumpkin Stout

So, taking from what you two said... add the warrior late in the boil, let say 20 or 15 mins? And add more spice to secondary if needed. So, what I could do is double up on the spices late in the boil and when I rack to secondary I could do a taste test and see how the spices are... and based...

Dry Hopping: To Sanitize or Not to Sanitize?

So, I am having a bit of a dilemma. I intended to dry hop a few days ago, but have been weary since I have read mixed reviews on the subject. Some people steam their hops while others don't. My hops have been in my freezer in freezer bags and only opened once. Can I just drop them in or do...

Looking for a good rye example

There is a company called Real Ale based out of Austin, TX area and they make a beer called "Full Moon Rye Pale Ale" and it's quite good. It has the right amount of spiceyness. If you are interested in trying it out, then PM me... I can get 6 packs of it, no problem. I'd be more than willing...

    New Belgium Ranger IPA

Just wanted to give my 2 cents... I enjoyed drinking my Ranger IPA. They seemed rather fresh and the hop flavor was still very prominent. Ranger IPA appeared to have more of a earthy hop flavor rather than a sweet or citrusy one. I am not a fan of extremely bitter beers as well, but this one...

    Creating a Imperial Pumpkin Stout

So, I have a favorite beer which is essentially an Imperial Stout infused with pumpkins. I have mentioned it in a previous thread but got very little response. Well, some time has passed and I have learned quite a lot more so... I am seeking some help on this recipe as this is something I...

Need comments on first recipe (IPA)

OK! So, here's the update! My FG was 1.012. My OG was 1.062 and according to brewheads.com stats calculator that puts my apparent attenuation at 79%. This is my best yet! But, its no surprise because I did a few things different this time around. This biggest thing that I did different...

Sorry I haven't had a chance to really respond to you. I will give the low down either late tonight or tomorrow on how things are... I have just been exhausted with work and school.

    Pale Rye Ale (help)

Ohh another thing... in that tutorial he uses 2 gallons of sparge water. I know its something like 1.25 quarts to every LB of grain, for strike water. But, does the sparge water matter as much? 2 gallons sound reasonable? Do I need less or more?
