    Add Campden?

Hmmm, yes, I will be aging - I don't plan on drinking until christmas and it will be carbonated - looks like I'll toss a Campden in.

    Add Campden?

I'm getting ready to bottle a cider this weekend and it suddenly dawned on me that maybe I should add a Campden tablet before I bottle. Am I supposed to?/Is it recommended?

    Effectively removing methanol from ethanol

Good to see another Kiwi in here! Sorry I can't help you though. I just wanted to point out that as this is an Amercian based forum, you will be lucky to get the questions you need answered as distillation is illegal there. As you are using an American forum, it is best not to flout their laws...

    Too much Fruit?

This might seem like a silly question, but I've been thinking about it too long not to ask. Is it possible to use too much fruit in a must? What happens if I use more fruit that is required for my batch size?

    Growth in my Cider!

Well, I'm still alive after the sip I had last night while racking, so It can't be all bad! LOL I like it!, and if I don't have any enemies, I might soon make some when they find that the 'secret' ingredient was a slug!

    Growth in my Cider!

I showed this to my other half when he got home last night. His opinion was that it was hidden up the tap on my bucket. Apparently slugs drown easily and as it was still alive, could not have come from inside the bucket, so I shall proceed!

    Growth in my Cider!

I Started a Cider about 7 weeks ago and today I decided to check were it was at. I had an ABV 6%, but this is what else I found! A Slug! I feel sick just thinking about it. I am very tempted to tip this cider down the drain. Would you?

fish and eggs in australian wines?

You truely get what you pay for! at $9.99, Cardboard Chateau is the cheapest of cheap. A more expensive bottle which may have still had fish and egg product, would be likely to have tasted far better.

    Bottling time! advice please!

I started a 1G cider 1/24/09 with an SG of 1.050 and primaried for 8 weeks at which I had 1.002. After 8 weeks in secondary, it's still at 1.002. It tastes sweet initially on the tounge, but once swallowed, feels a little like I dabbed my tounge with a paper towel! I'm not sure that I want any...

    Freezing AJ

It's apple season here now (New Zealand) and prices are cheap, so I thought I'd get some, juice them and then freeze the juice until I'm ready for it. Would I be better to add the pectic enzyme before I freeze, or should I leave it until I am ready to make cider and the AJ has defrosted? I also...

    Polycarbonate okay?

This whole polycarb thing came up after my children finished with bottles & sippy cups! Until recently, we have heard very little here about problems with it. In saying that, I'm don't think I'll take the risk - for myself, DH or the children!

    right, that makes sense!

    Strawberries

maybe this is not the right place to ask, but I was looking at Yooper's links and was wondering about the correct way of doing the primary. The intructions say (after everything else) to cover & stir daily for 7 days. If I do this in a pail type setup, does that mean that I cover the pail with...

    Strawberries

I can't make everything at once! I am making a cider in 1 1G, and 'soggy cardboard' in the other 1G. Now I also want to make strawberry wine, plum wine, so mead might have to wait.... I will have more strawberries after Xmas (I grow my own!) though.
