    Wiring a motor

Sure! Although you will need to wire your drum switch in accordance with the instructions which come with the switch, the wiring of the motor is very simple, and straight forward - basically what is shown on the spec plate. Many of our fellow brewers have had their electrician call us to...

    Wiring a motor

That is correct! And it is a very important difference. 110 V wiring is completely different that 220 V wiring. Also, 220 V current in Europe (and other parts of the world) is different than the 220 V current in the US (split phase vs. singe phase). Just another reason to consult with a...

    Wiring a motor

You will need to consult with a licensed electrician who is knowledgeable in motor wiring to determine the significance of that (220 V, 1 HP, 750 W motor) rating number. :)

    Wiring a motor

Sure! Here is a photo of the spec plate which comes on every motor. It shows the wiring diagram for both 110 V ("low volt") and 220 V ("high volt"). It also shows the wiring combinations for both clockwise and counter clockwise motor shaft rotation (identified with an arrow indicating...

    Wiring a motor

Fellow Brewers, Thanks for discussing the electrical wiring issue. Anybody who has tried to order electrical components knows that unless YOU specify what you want, the retailer WILL NOT provide advice or instructions - for legal reasons. Unfortunately, anybody can sue anybody for anything, so...

Need help deciding on which grain mill to buy

Well done! That's the way a motorized mill is supposed to look! Nice drum switch too. Overkill = fewer problems, less wasted time, and long term satisfaction! Happy Brewing!

    Junk Malt Muncher Motor

Fellow Brewers, great discussion. Thanks for the support. It has been a tough year for all of us. When anyone is ready to step up to a varsity (non-drill / non-flywheel) setup with a motor which is not one of these dinky little units being sold through eBay, Williams Brewing, etc., we are here...

    Motorizing mill?

Monster Hardware is now producing a 1/2" shaft with a keyway. The keyed shaft is available on specific models. You will need to check with them to see which models have the keyed shaft as an option. Happy Brewing!

    Motorizing mill?

Check with Fred Francis at Monster Hardware. I believe they offer a keyed shaft on at least two of their models. Cheers!

    Motorizing mill?

Congratulations! It sounds like you are upgrading to a much better milling setup. Just a suggestion... If you value your fingers, avoid a spinning finger chopper setup. Those spinning flywheel contraptions are an accident looking for a place to happen. We are biased, but hundreds of our...

Motorized Grain Mills: Time to show them off!

Just so everybody will know "the rest of the story".... We (AAAW) sold a motor to the fellow brewer who posted above(Robg773). Against our recommendation, the brewer wired the motor incorrectly in an attempt to wire the motor for reverse operation. The brewer made an attempt to troubleshoot...
