I'm brewing 2 different batches a week apart that both call for the same yeast. I dont know the target OG for either, but I do know the projected ABV for one is ~7 and the other is prob ~9.5-10. My plan was to pitch vial of whitelabs to a 1L starter (~1.040) a week before and ferment out...
Boo. I just bored holes and put spigots in them yesterday. If there aren't any visible scratches do you think they're okay. I know I'm sounding like a total cheap a$$, but I was hoping to invest in a gas burner for my next batch.
I'll look more closely later..both buckets are now full of beer. Yesterday was my first batch in about 2 yrs. (I started thinking about this in retrospect--what i need to do next time). I'm a little rusty and my technique was a little ill planned. The pads I used to clean w are the same type...
I haven't brewed in a while and apparently when my equipment was stored it wasn't completely dry. My bottling buckets and fermentation buckets were stacked and i noticed that one of them had a little bit of mildew in it. I cleaned w oxyclean and a plastic scrubby/scotch-brite pad (are these...
I let it soak over night w oxy, scrubbed this morning, then let it sit w some starsan in it. I didnt boil w oxy or anything like that..assumed sitting over night w oxy and sitting for an hr w starsan would be sufficient. I got my pot and gear ready. Hope it turns out fine w/o boiling w oxy...
stuck a rare earth magnet to pot and it seems like there was a little pull..definitely pulled at the lip of the pot where the metal rolls over. Also, I took a key to the outside of it. I'm almost certain it is steel.
I had about 10 batches under my belt, all very drinkable, but had to take a break for a yr and a half. I have two 5 gal kits I'm doing at once (extract) so I borrowed a buddy's fryer and burner to facilitate the larger boil. He normally fries turkeys and does low country boils in the pot so I...
I'm a big fan of Lagunitas myself You can get Hop Stoopid @ Total Wine for about 4-5/bottle. I picked up a bottle of their Ruben and the Jets, ZAPPA commemorative release the other day. You should definitely try The Big D.I.P.A. by Heavy Seas. (~$5/tallboy)

I'm not a super experienced brewer, but I read this before I got into it. Says that a little bit of cold break is okay b/c it provides yeast w/ needed nutrients. Don't know if thats of and help to you.
