i'm originally from Abingdon. wonder where your homebrew store is. there used to be one in abingdon; forgot what it was called. glad things are brewing in SW VA.
dude i got a $10 cooler from craigslist, big rectangular igloo and it rules. loses 1-2 degrees an hour. capacity is huge, although i haven't really loaded it up yet. pvc manifold in the bottom with hacksaw slits. everything works perfect - total investment to go AG was less than $30.
i've done both. advantage of force carbing is you're ready in 2-3 days (or hours if you're that impatient). advantage of natural carbing (other than using zero co-2) is (in some cases) the head is finer, and at least in my experience the carbonation lasts fully till the keg's empty...
been brewing since about 2000 but got "serious" about 2 years ago. all-grain mostly but still like a quick extract batch now and then to pump out a session beer. found this site as i was viewing...another site...and looking to see some system pics cause i've got the itch we're all familiar with.
