Ok I've harvested now what?

Ok I harvested my first year bounty (loose term) now what? I cut my bines back to about 2' or so and my question is... Do I need to keep watering them until I cut them all the way back? We are in a serious drought here in CA and would like to help where I can.

I harvested a couple weeks ago, cut all the way back, now I have two vines that I let climb again that are 6' tall, will get a small second harvest. In winter I cut back and cover w straw, I try to fertilize a couple times during winter. They still need water, but not near as much.....
