Love this website! Thank God it exists!!

I'm currently in the process of doing my 3rd beer, a Vienna Lager. After the cook last night, I ended up pouring a whole lot of the green/brown sludge into the glass primary fermentation carboy. Thinking this would produce poor results, I let it rest a few hours and when it settled to the bottom, I siphoned off all the "good stuff" and tossed the sludge.

Now I am wondering if I did a bad thing. :smack:

The primary fermentation tank is now very clear of sludge, and the yeast has been added. But does the primary need some of these sludge to do its thing?

Did I screw up?

No and in all honesty you could have just left everything as it was, pitch the yeast and leave it alone.

All the stuff you dumped in would have settled out with the yeast anyway:)
