Has anyone used pearled barley in lieu of malted barley grains? I have a large amount of it available to me and am wondering if it's worth trying a batch with it ( I know....always worth trying )

It is barley without the hulls....i think it is processed as a cereal but without additives....similar to what htey do with oatmeal????

it's unmalted barley with the hulls removed and is not brewable. makes a great beef and barley soup though!

I didn't think it was malted.....oatmeal isn't either but I'ved used that successfully....wonder what the difference is???
Thanks

You can use some (<25%) along with malted barley to provide the conversion enzymes.

Would the pearled barley work if you add amalayse enzyme to the part to help with starch conversion though? If not i have a big batch of crap cookin up right now.
