I was in my local brew store recently and the guy recommended adding irish moss to the boil to help clear my beer. He said he uses it for all the beers he brews. However I recently heard you shouldn't add irish moss to an extract recipe for some reason. Maybe he didn't realize I was only an extract brewer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I have always heard that the benefits of irish moss/whirlfloc apply to all-grain and extract alike, and I've used irish moss when I've done extract recipes with no noticeable unpleasantness.

Just noticed it suggests not to use it for extract recipes in the John Palmer book too.
