I have this recipe that I have done with an extract and it was great but i would like to make it just a little bit less bitter and more refreshing. what hops should I sub with. This will be my first all grain. I got all my stuff installed and I now have the go ahead to order my grains. zippy do da

Here is the recipe

8½ lbs American Pale Malt
1 lb Munich Malt
6 oz Crystal 60°L
1 oz Sterling pellets 6% for 60 minutes
1 oz Vanguard pellets 4.4% for 10 minutes
1 oz Vanguard pellets 4.4% for 1 minute
1 oz Sterling pellets 6% dry hopped for 2 weeks in the secondary (or in the keg)
Wyeast 2450 Denny's Favorite Ale yeast
OG: 1.054, FG: 1.014, IBU: 34, SRM: 7, ABV: 5.2%

I'm pretty new, but I would say you can afford to drop the crystal a little bit, and replace the Vanguard with something a bit juicier - Cascade, Simcoe, Nelson Sauvin, Amarillo...? You might also want to dry hop with something more aromatic - one of those ones would do the trick.

Just my 2 cents :)

Sorry, ignore the bit about the crystal, I didn't read your question right! But I stand by the hop changes - pick some lovely juicy varieties and go crazy!

Adjust your hops to about 20 IBU, This would make it more refreshing. I have not used Vanguard, but I have used all Sterling in a Blonde Ale at 60 & 20 minutes that was a hit. It was 24 ibu.

Thanks I messed with it last night and I think will try this.
