Just curious. I have a nice unused stand up freezer that works great. Will this style of freezer work and what do you have to do to over ride the temp controls? I am considering kegging so any help would be appreciated.

The first thing to check is the shelving- some of the upright freezers have cooling coils in the shelves. If that is the case, you probably can't remove the shelves.

Once the shelves are removed, all you need is a temperature controller, to keep the temp of the freezer at 40 degrees. They have both digital and analog types, and cost about $50 or so.

Even if you do have coils in the shelves, some older models had a small semi-rigid hose that connected the shelves to the body to transmit the coolant, and can be carefully moved out of the way.
