Default 3quart Plastic Bottles

Brewed up a batch of Apfelwein the other day. I'm probably not gonna have regular beer bottles to bottle with in a month or two (my bottles are going to other batches, trying to drink as much commercial brew as I can, hard to keep up ).

Wondering if it's a good idea to carbonate with the bottles they came in? Like I said, they're 3 quart plastic bottles. They seem pretty sturdy and strong, really thick. Is there a chance that the screw on caps will leak some CO2? I've seen that my LHBS carries plastic screw-top bottles, so I'm assuming they work.

Also, does the size of the bottle affect how long it takes to fully carbonate?

I was fermenting in those plastic bottles once. I thought that the fermentation was mostly over so i put the cap on and called it a night.

it swelled up pretty big over night, but it did not pop.

not sure if that helps any.

get some 2 liter or 3 liter bottles. they are made to hold that kind of pressure.
