Hi, I want to brew either a pale ale or a red ale and would like people' s recommendations on a good kit to get a good start. I will be going for a quality one say 3.6 kg and would also be interested in any tweaks , hints to improve on what you get out of the box. E.g. Yeast upgrade, added extras  cheers

I'd get the California Ale Yeast option, and ferment it at 68 degrees. I really LOVE that one!
