Hi, first post! I am making a portable cooler kegerator...actually, I am almost done with it. I need to get a smaller paintball Co2 tank & adapter (my spare 5lb tank fits, but the regulator stops the lid from closing all the way). I also need to get some closed cell foam for the back, bottom and front to protect the cooler interior and lock the insert in place.

I borrowed heavily (ok...stole) from these 2:

Let me know what you think!

are you going to put ice in it and if you do will it leak when the ice begins to melt?

I have a igloo marine much like this that I am currently using as a mash tun. I would tip it on its side like this and run a picnic tap through the bulkhead to get a similar result.

very cool build partner. I like it!

Wrap the keg in a few of these:

Then, wrap in some type of insulation... thick blanket or something you don't mind getting a little condensation on. This combination put in a cooler like this should keep the keg cold for quite some time.

Thank you!

Yes, I will put ice and add ice in it thru the access hatch. It's not a big deal if it leaks, it's going to be on the back of a boat most of the time anyway.

My wife and her friends (and the guys too) sort of turned into beer snobs over the last 6 months. Usually we just drink light (cheap) beer on the boat or dock, but recently a couple of us got kegerators and we get sixtels from the local brewery for $30 a pop. Too good of a deal to pass up.

Anyway, that is what necessitated this build...keeping the girls happy (and frisky :D) with good beer on the boat

LOL, I was thinking the same thing. Gonna need kegs on the boat right? :D awesome!

Nice. I will have to keep this in mind for a future build. If you don't want to get a paintball CO2 tank, you could always just drill a small hole and run the gas line outside the cooler. My home kegerator has the CO2 tank on the outside (making room for 3 ball lock kegs inside).

My home kegerator has the tank on the outside as well. However, for this cooler project, I don't mind getting a paintball tank. I want everything self contained with no external features except the faucet. Even that will get tucked inside for transporting. I have a second hatch panel so I can disconnect the faucet panel and swap them.

I was about to ask where you got the second hatch from... then I saw the second cooler in the background. Geez man. Did you buy another cooler just for the extra hatch? Could you not just order a "replacement" hatch from the manufacturer?

that was the original plan...buy a replacement hatch. The other cooler was a freebee from a friend...the hatch just happened to be the same as the one on the new cooler. I will get around to ordering another hatch so I can use that other cooler too.

Oh. Just a sugggestion you may want to put a strap around the cooler before you fill it with ice through the door. The latches work good at first but they tend to snap open easier the more you use it. The drop door works great for adding ice though. I just leave a 20 oz. co2 tank inside.

I agree! I planned on having a strap around the cooler anyway...I don't have that much confidence in the hinges or latches. Depending on how well this setup works out this summer, I might upgrade the hinges and latches, but I would still use a strap too...kind of double purpose. It would also secure the "K"ooler to a handle on the rear deck/swim platform of the boat

BTW, I obviously liked your idea and choice of cooler!
