When you are using a top fermenting yeast do you discard the yeast cake completely before siphoning? Or do you need to mix the yeast back in for carbonation in the bottle?
Generally, you siphon the beer, not the yeast cake. The yeast cake is what's left on the bottom. After you siphon, there should be enough yeast left in suspension to carbonate the beer.
