I would like to start brewing with distilled water but what is added to distilled to create brewing water?

Sorry to be off topic, but what's considered "brewing water"? I thought that as long as the water is okay to drink, you can use it for your brew :p

There's a nice place to start. What you add really depends on the ingredients you're brewing with and you desired result.

As for using any water, they used straight lake water on an episode of brewing tv and said it turned out fine. You kill any nasties in the boil. Past that, the main concern is ph for the mash.

I don't mean to discourage you from asking questions, but the answer to your question depends on what kind of brewing water you want. If you're asking a question like this, I would recommend reading Palmer's sections about brewing chemistry as a place to start (http://www.howtobrew.com/section3/chapter15-4.html is the most in-depth part).

Until you have a clear idea of what you're looking for, just use bottled "drinking water" or "spring water." Sure, you don't know exactly what you're getting, but they'll almost certainly be fine.
