Note to self (and others)

Do not add yeast nutrient (urea) to 4L of boiling wort in a flask.

Srsly, I wish I had a video of this -- it erupted so violently that there is wort on the ceiling of my garage.

Here's a pic taken just prior to the incident:

Instead of having a nice starter, I will spend the next hour cleaning things up.

it's all in the first line there...

I had 4L of starter at a low boil, thought to myself "I should add a little yeast nutrient..." So I grabbed a pinch, and threw in it. within seconds, it was spewing like a volcano.

yes, that's probably a better way to put it

anyway, the mess is cleaned up, and i got to learn a lesson at a relatively low cost!
