Default Alchohol content formula needed

SG is 1.042
FG is 1.014

How do you figure out the achohol content .

Multiply the difference by 131 for ABV.

It's something like OG-FG x 131

1.042-1.014=1.028

1.028 x 131=3.7 or 3.7% ABV

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

I used 6 lbs of Light LME, 1 lbs of steeping grains (80 L) , Hops and a activator pack from Wyeast. Does that sound right? It is still in secondary for about 10 more days. Also I took the OG AFTER I pitched the yeast. Should that reading be done before the yeast is pitched? How much would the OG be off?

Shouldn't matter when you pitch the yeast but the temperature will matter. The ideal temperature is 60 F but if you're like me I normally pitch around 65-70 F. I remember seeing a table somewhere around here or in Palmer's book that listed the corrections by temperature that are correct to use but they are published.

No hops in that recipe?
