It has been hard to find a Aruba Balashi clone. I have a neighbor that would like me to brew a Balashi batch. Does anyone have a recipe for Balashi, preferably extract?

Saw this post randomly and also saw nobody replied....until now....

Balashi is Dutch-inspired pilsner (think Heineken). Balashi originates in Aruba which has a large Dutch community. Since Aruba does not have a fresh water source, they actually brew Balashi using desalinized ocean water. Flavor-wise, Balashi is not far off from Heineken.

Keep in mind, if you drink Heineken in Amsterdam it is totally different than the green-bottle skunked stuff available in the US. I've been to both Amsterdam and Aruba and have enjoyed both beers fresh in their homelands.

You may want to begin looking at Heineken clones and tweak from there.

Or, try this recipe I just made up based on BJCP targets and what I'm pulling off the top of my head while on my lunch break:

5 Gal
OG: 1.044-50

- #3.3 Liquid light Extract
- #1.5 Rice Syrup Solids
- #1 Vienna Malt (1-4 SRM target)
- 1oz Spalt or Hallartau hops @ 60min boil (25-35 IBU target)
- Ferment with Wyeast 2042 Dutch Lager

BTW- if you brew this recipe, please let me know how it comes out. Thanks!
