In plumbing my new system, is there any benefit of 1/2"ID versus 3/8"? I'm planing on using SS and sanitary fittings. But the 1/2" sanitary have an actual ID of 3/8. I don't see why this would be an issue, as I'm always restricting my flow through the pumps anyway (for spargeing & cooling). If the 3/8" ID is too small, then that means 1" sanitary which is about 7/8"ID.

Depending on the pump(s) you use, 3/8" ID tubing - and those "1/2 inch" QDs that are actually 3/8" ID - might cause cavitation fits.

That's why I went with 1/2" cam lock QDs and fittings for everything, because they maintain a true 1/2" through the fitting. The fact the cam locks are way less expensive than the other type of QD didn't hurt, either ;)

Cheers!
