Am going to brew up a Northern Brewer Honey Weizen Kit for SWMBO as soon as my English Pale Ale hits secondary - and suddenly realized I have yet to brew a wheat beer!

The kit is 6 pounds wheat LME, 1 pound clover honey, 1 oz. Tettnang (60 min) and Wyeast 1010 American Wheat.

My question is, should I use the 1/2 tab whirlfloc at 10 min like I've done with all my other beers, or just skip it as this style is supposed to be hazy anyhow???

Thanks! Pez.

I'd def leave it out. I purposely omit that on all my wheats. Depending on how long it sits in bottles/keg it'll start to settle out anyway, when bottled I swirl it up just like in a commercial version.

That's what I figured, but I thought I would ask to confirm.

Thanks! Pez.

I used it on my last wheat, which was great. It ended up almost clear after about 1-2 months in keg. I didn't mind, because you can kick it up with a gentle swirl.

I would say the other significant benefit of whirlfloc (depending on your system and how it drains from the kettle) is the dropping out of the Cold break material. In a clean malt forward beer like that getting the beer off the break material can be beneficial. That's my rationale.

I think you'll have a great beer either way though.
