I have a $600 budget and im looking for a conical or two. Let me know what you have.. would probably have to be local to Northern Chicago Suburbs (60030) because shipping is ludicrous

Lol, I have been waiting for the 14 gallon version for a long time.. that's what I intend to buy unless I can find a good deal before then

Agree. The features on the Spike are way above what SS is providing. They are venturing into Brew Hardware territory with what they are offering.

the real question is if they are really needed... i could buy a stout for 2/3 teh cost of the spike and then have budget left over for a Jaybird yeast harvester kit.. its a tough decision since ive never owned a conical before i want to get the right thing.

Really? A stout? I would think their prices are comparable or possibly more with shipping. I've had nothing but great experiences with Spike. Their quality leaves nothing wanting. The SS IMO is not worth the risk... I'm so done with weldless fittings. Leaks and all that BS.

what about Fermenators? are they still relevant given all the other advances in conicals over the last few years. (bigger dump ports etc. )

They are all good, probably overkill actually for homebrewing. Get what feels right for you. I've used Ss conicals for a few years without any issue fwiw.
