Would this be sensible or not?

I've got a brew of Coopers Lager bubbling away in the primary at the moment and I'm thinking of bottling a bit of it and getting a pressure barrel for the rest. What I wanted to know is if it's OK to not prime it in the pressure barrel with sugar and instead just add CO2 cartridges to it instead? Would t6his have the same affect just with lower alchohol levels?

Not sure what you mean by pressure barrel but if you are talking about a keg, yes this is possible people do it all of the time. That is how I carbonate my kegs.

That's what I'm intending on using. I think it's what you guys would call a keg I suppose. There's a fitting on the top that recieved CO2 cartridges and a tap on the bottom. Thanks

I would think it would take a lot of cartridges to force carb beer . I think I would just use priming sugar for it all and let it carb on its own in the keg. Priming sugar really a negligible affect on ABV . Just remember that when carbing a larger volume in a keg you use less sugar
