Has anyone taken a stainless wort chiller and fit it to a hot liquor tank for a herms coIl I saw one on Midwest supply's site for 75 bucks is it worth the time to try ?

Its probably 25 foot right? If so it would probaly work for a small batch.

I used to do this by just putting the wort chiller (50' x 1/2'' copper) in my HLT, and recirculating my wort through said chiller and back into my MT. It does work...you just have to baby the HLT temps if you do not have automation.

No actually it was a 50 footer I believe

You'll want a 1/2" coil if possible. More importantly make sure the interior diameter of your compression fittings match the interior diameter of the coil. Some of them are smaller in the male thread side and that can make a choke point, especially with a 3/8 fitting. That can cause some grain or rice hulls to get caught in the fitting. You'll think you have a stuck mash when you really have a clogged coil. Learned that the hard way a few years back when I was where you are now.

But yes it works if you have a way to manage temp control.
