Last year's BrewUnited Challenge - with its funky ingredient requirements and awesome prizes - was a huge success. The 2016 incarnation has been open for entries for about ten days now; I've been debating on whether to post about it here at HBT, but decided that it ought to be appropriate to do so here in the Beer Blogs section. If that's not the case, please remove this thread.
Anyway...
Last year, we hit the 300 entry cap in 27 days. This year, we've increased that to 500 entries - and ten days in, we're halfway full.
Sponsor support is amazing for this comp; we're at around $4200 worth of prizes donated so far, and multiple other sponsors have agreed to take part (we just don't know what they are donating yet). We do know that the grand prize winner will receive a 7 gallon Chronical fermentor from SS Brew Tech, as well as a loaded 10 gallon Spike Brewing kettle from HomeBrewSupply.
Judging is held in four different sites across the country on the weekend of October 14th-16th.
American Beer Division - Chicago, IL
Commonwealth Beer Division - Austin, TX
Continental Beer Division - Fresno, CA
SMaSH Beer Category ("for fun") - Washington, D.C.
The winners of the three main Divisions then advance to a Best of Show round held in Birmingham, AL.
The BrewUnited Challenge is a BJCP certified event; each Division contains six BJCP style categories. All beers have to conform to certain recipe restrictions designed to take brewers out of their comfort zones a bit.
