Fresh strawberries are the way to go. They will reduce the pinkness. The tartness is just part of this beer but it does disapate with age. Glad you guys like it!

Mine had no pink ish to it. I used three pounds on a three gallon batch . fresh strawberries.

I will put one in the fridge tonight and get a picture tomorrow.

I just brewed this again yesterday and I got this weird sponge like clouds floating near the surface. Is this bad? Its only been about 15 hours since pitching the yeast.

That is wierd looking. Is it lighting, or is the beer really dark? Did u add strawberries before you pitched? Something going on there but i cant tell you what it is.

No strawberries yet. Its just the base beer and its been less than 24 hours of pitching the yeast

Ive had some yeast coagulate like that before but not S-05, to the best of my memory. I wouldnt worry about it. Let it ferment. At what temp did you pitch and what yeast did you use? What temp is the wort now?

Will be making this ASAP, half size batch (3.25 gallons for a 3 gallon keg) and one of the 4 lb frozen organic strawberry bags from Costco. Wish me luck!

It did drop after a few days

Looks good!!!

Good luck. I still recommend fresh berries though. You might get a very "pink" beer using frozen. At least that is my experience.

Color doesn't matter to me at all - and frozen is half the price! I don't want to spend $20 on berries for a HALF batch ! :mug:

I can't wait to try this one....thanks for the recipe. I got three little plants of strawberries I planted in my garden last summer that just erupted and overtook a whole 4'x4' portion of my raised 4'x28' garden bed I built last spring. They produced a handful of strawberries but I'm expecting a bountiful crop this summer. I'll be picking, sanitizing and freezer storing them as they come in now til I hit 8 lbs and rock the recipe out. The wifey will love it I'm sure.

Based on the original recipe, yes. I used to do a double batch sparge. I do a fly or single batch sparge now, but when i posted the recipe, that was how i brewed. I also mash fairly thin.

looking to do this recipe. I just moved from extract to partial mash. I can handle about 5lbs of grain and 6.5 gallons for a boil. How should I attack this recipe with my equipment?

Are you stil using extract as well? Take a look at the Succulent Strawberry Blonde thread. It is a extract and the inspiration for mine. Maybe between the two recipe's, you can come up with a hybrid?

I brewed this the other week and the strawberries have been sitting for 7 to 8 days and the strawberry flavor is not really coming through its just more tart/acidic. I am thinking of adding some extract at kegging. That way you still get some strawberry flavor and a bit of tartness.. I will post up the results in a day or so..
