Hey guys

I got a March pump for Xmas and I am trying to figure out where to put the pump in my brew setup.

I have a couple "problems" I would like to solve with it. I guess I am wondering if there's some setup where I can use the pump to solve both issues, and exactly what I'd need to do to my brew kettle (in terms of modifications) to make it happen.

Problem #1 - Probably my biggest one, I really have a hard time keeping mash temps constant. Would like to recirculate my BIAB mash if possible. Anyone else do this with a march pump?

Problem #2 - My tap water comes out way freaking hot. Would like to actually be able to run water through ice water before going through a wort chiller.

Please let me know your thoughts

Put some cam locks on your pump and you can use it wherever you want in the process. I don't see a problem using it for both tasks.

A pump won't solve your heat loss problems. However, a pump in conjunction with a heat source and some type of controller will.

You don't need a pump to solve problem 2. You need a prechiller in an ice bath.

You could recirculate you wort and it might help you evenly distribute the wort to obtain one temperature. If it's below what you want heat it up and see how it goes. This is what the Breweasy setup does with the Tower of Power.

You could also buy a second chiller, put it in a bucket, add a bunch of ice to the bucket and connect the out from this chiller to the one you have. With the pump you could recirculate your wort to make chilling easier instead of needing to move the chiller around or stir everything.

Cover your pot with a few blankets, or a sleeping bag or even old winter coat.
