Eqiuvilant to say, Charlie Papazian's "The Complete Joy of Homebrewing".

Bought my first kit last week and I'm going to have some free time coming up this weekend. Want to make sure I'm on top of things before jumping in. :p

If you are making a kit wine the Bible is the directions that came with it. ;) If you are wanting to read a few great books on winemaking my favorite is From Vines to Wines: The Complete Guide to Growing Grapes and Making Your Own Wine ,The Joy of Home Wine Making , and last but not least, The Wine Maker's Answer Book

These three books should answer just about any question you have. Jeff Cox's book is great for info on making wine from grapes and general winemaking info. Terry Garry's book is great for making fruit wines but is becoming a little dated but still fantastic. Alison Crowe's book is snippets of articles from the Wine Wizard articles in Winemakers Magazine and is a fantastic read as well.

I would agree with Yooper Chick! Jack Keller has the best wine site on the net. Lots of information you can use with home receipes or kits. I have tried a bunch of the receipes there and they all turn out great. I also still use the site when I started designing a new receipe.

thanks guys/gals. Yes, I am just doing a kit for now, but am very interested in the process, ingredients and such. Just like when I started with my first beer kit, would like to familiar myself with the big picture and get some knowledge while also following the directions. :mug:

Good luck! Winemaking is addictive, too. I find myself in the grocery store, thinking "Oh, that will make a good wine!" about nearly every piece of produce! Next up for me is blackberry (again), rhubarb (again) and chokecherry wine. I have the fruit in the freezer just waiting for an empty carboy!
