I have been using my bayiu classic 40 qt with a bazooka screen and reflectix insulation for my mash tun. Its works pretty good but Id like to improve the efficiency by upgrading to a false bottom. I see they do make one by it raises the grain up too high. Is there a domed setup that will work better?

I use the one they make along with the bazooka screen under it and I have had no efficiency problems? I still drain and use the wort under the false bottom so I dont see the issue. I use the 62 qt version though. either way I dont think you will see a boost in efficiency from this... my old mash tun had just the bazooka tube and then I bought a false bottom for it and I saw no change in efficiency (I recirculate my mash though so its already very efficient). Efficiency is more likely to change with your grain crush and mash /sparge methods...

The bayou false bottoms are about 1/2 price of retail on ebay BTW and they are stronger now than they used to be.

Thanks for the heads up. I guess my only real issue with the bazooka screens is they are a pain to clea; I guess I wont be upgrading it any time soon. What size batches are you brewing with a 15 gallon mash tun? Im using my 15 gal pot as a brew kettle. - My setup is a 15 gal keggle hot water (strike/ sparge) 10 gal mash tun , 15 gal boil kettle. I usually have 20+ lbs grain bills. for a 5 gallon batch.

I do 5.5 and 10.5 gallon brews... I have a 15 gallon bk and 15.5g mash and bk full electric setup.
