I love that "orange-ish" color that certain beers have. So far all the apa's and ipa's iv'e made have that light brownish color. I'd like to make an ipa with that "orange" color to it so what grain or grains is it that will give me this.
When you enter your recipe into a calculator, you are looking for a SRM between 10L and 17L. Darker than 17L is going to be moving into browns and blacks. Lighter than 10L is going to be moving into golds and straws.
Would a very light base malt with a touch of very dark caramalt give a more striking orange colour than say pale malt with a regular amount of light caramalt?
Also FWIW, in a light grain bill for a NEIPA, for example, if you throw in 2oz (5 gallon batch) of Caraaroma (140 L) it will give you a nice orange color without affecting anything else. Learned from @couchsending . He's a font of knowledge and experience. Pro now, I checked out his brew pub this summer... excellent beers, as expected.
