The site has been down for at least a day, came back up this afternoon, and is now down again.

The message on the site currently is quite curious (In Greenboard green for posterity sake):

The Brewboard will be shuttiing down until 10am.

I am sorry that the ability to share beer and wine makers information is being underminded by a few disguntled former members.

The board will be back up tomorrow and any continuation of the present efforts of disruptions will be met with strict enforcement of the rules.

This board is going to be a refuge for beer and wine makers and if you are not going to be a part of the solution you will not be welcomed here.

Without knowing any details--it sounds kind of like the PH is shutting down? Anyone know the scoop?

no, not when you ask for it, PTN. I don't have any idea what's going on over there Dude, the green backdrop is an assault to the eyes so I barely go over there anymore. It'll be interesting to find out though.

He is a basic recap. Crap hit fan last night which resulted in prolly almost 20 people being banned including 3 or 4 long time moderators and that info is not in the below quotes. The information below in quotes is about what happened on Saturday.

So in place of the GB, those long time moderators opened a new board called Brews Bros

With the PH gone/out of commision a lot of us moved over to another board that had less restrictive rules. That place is the Lifeboat

After having my account banned on Saturday, only to be unbanned a few hours later. I asked to have my account deleted and have been done with that place since.

Jess tried to reign in the PH somewhat.[/quote]
By bringing in his own mods and having them unilaterally warning/suspending people based on new arbitrary rules that no one knew but him.

The Mods tried to give their advice. It was promptly ignored.
The discussion went on for over a week. We tried to pin him down to stating clearly what was acceptable and what was not, and he just wouldn't do it.

Invalid said TammieR smelled like McNuggets.
And got a 2 day suspension for his efforts.

Jess eventually overruled the mods, installed his new code of conduct which looked just like the old one but in his mind was FAR more restrictive. 4 mods resigned, because we had no idea what the hell we were supposed to enforce.

Lots of banning and unbanning ensued.
It gets kinda hazy after that, but there was kind of a general revolt that involved banning, suspension, account deletion, flounces, lots of McNugget references, and a bandwidth spike at the lifeboat. Then Jess informed the world that his new mods were a little too harsh with the ban stick, so he unbanned a bunch of people. Then he started a big group hug thread in which Mtn tore him a new one to general applause...

Somewhere Saturday night the whole board went *urk* and went down.
Then Jess decided that he couldn't keep the place open with as few mods as he had, so he closed it. Supposedly it's coming back up soon, with no PH.

Did any of this spill over onto here over the weekend?...Was that nasty Troll Attack we got hit with somehow tied in? Were some of our members involved over there and we somehow got dragged into it?

No clue, didn't realize there was troll attack here. Link?

All the threads were shut down...it was pretty nasty, scat porn and other things...It seemed like it was multiple people...It happened at a gap in moderation no less...only a couple of us were around, and reporting threads...

This was a discussion that came about as the aftermath of the attack....https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f45/should-hbt-pay-only-109866/

You know, one of the reasons I landing here originally was that I thought this was the nicest of all the other brewboards...I lurked on the others including that one...and just thought the energy here was more congenial....I actually thought that place was one of the worst. Plus staring too long at that green backdrop gave me a headache. :D

After 10:00 and no Greensite.

Must be the season, TastyBrew darn near self destructed last week;what moon-phase is this? :D

Harv I'm a little confused. WTF is PH? Your first quote doesn't make any sense whatsoever. And so... the people that were banned from the green board started two other boards... and they had problems there too?

Wow, thanks for the info.

I have opinions on the matter--let's just say I'll kinda miss the green board, but it is better this way. I have a feeling the 2 "lifeboat" sites will be short-lived. If the "owner" of the green board has any sense, he makes some pretty convincing apologies in the next few days.

I think the brew board is run by the guy who owns my LHBS in Charlotte.
Could be wrong though.

PH stands for Public House. A kind of no holds barred place to vent about stuff other than beer.

The mods that were banned last night started a new forum aimed solely at brewing (Brew-Bros). Just to clarify the mods that were banned last night all resigned last Saturday.

The other board (The Lifeboat) was create some time ago as place to go when the Brewboard was down.

There have been no problems at either of these two new sites. However some of the members from the Lifeboat got rowdy last night and some of them made some posts to ensure they were banned. Others were banned for either no reason at all, or for having a McNugget as their avatar. (That has a whole different story behind it).

Wow, thanks for the info.

hehe, you don't know Jess very well if you think he is going to make an apology. Ask hightest about that if you don't believe me.

This isn't the first time mods and users have left the greenboard and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Would this be him? Jess Faucette

COuld be him.
I have not meet him before. Just e-brew home page sends you to there as their forum and it is also the LHBS around here.
So I figure they have to be the same guy. Same name at least.

I've never spent much time over there. I really and truly cannot look at the background color for more than a few minutes without my eyes starting to burn. Glad HBT came along.

The brewboard was a great site up until the past few years. There are a lot of good people that hang out over there and more than a few good recipes. Hopefully the place will get back to beer and good times instead of BS. A few bad apples always have to ruin it for everybody else.

And I had my flouncing letter all written up nice and neat! Then before I could post in my last thread, the board went down again!

It is a bit sad that it came down to this. As a LONG standing member of one of the oldest boards on the intertube, LONG before JeJess himself purchased the joint, I had spent several years of my life there on that site. I unleashed some cool projects on that board and turned a buttload of folks onto his business over the years.

A lot of great knowledge left the board that night.

You are posting this in an area here on this board that is dedicated to BS my friend. That is what we had until a few days ago... JeJess wanted the whole board "G"rated...

The BS stayed in the BS forum much as this site here. Some of the members that were flounced or flouncing have been brewing beer, meads and ciders, and long standing knowledgeable members of that board for 7 or 8 years now. Much like myself...

I think I want to change my name to Ale. It sounds so cool. "Nuther Beer, Ale?" :D

What a whole lot of drama out there in cyber space.

To clarify - we have evidence that this weekend's spam/troll attack was not in any way affiliated with BrewBoard or its members. There is no merit in explaining it further, as it appears to have been an isolated incident.

This soap-opera like tale has to be the gayest thing I've ever read. Sounds like a lot of people really need to get a life.

It's sad how a small change in leadership and some bruised egos have completely changed that board. It used to be really good a few years ago. I mostly lurked, but saw some great discussions.

Nothing touches HBT now.

First off let me say that I love everything here at HBT. I cant get enough of this site, but are people really that tied up with their "cyber" lives that something like this could become such a huge problem?

I'm not talking about this place but rather that green board one. How about you stop being such an internet "tough guy" and go live your life. It blows my mind that someone could get so worked up over nothing.

Seriously have you ever heard of RDWHAHB? Thats why we're here right?

I accordance with Megan's Law, he's not allowed to already.

I grew up about a block from megan of megans law. They destroyed the the house, and made a park type memorial.
They searched all our yards, and actually found her in the woods along the soccer field on campus at the college/park grounds.
That was a horrible tragedy.
