Has anyone tasted the Westvleteren 12 and then made an extract clone or all grain?
How close is it? I'm not expecting "very" as an answer.
When I tried the real Westmalle Belgian Tripel, I didn't love it (just my taste) but I really liked how the clone in "Brew Your Own" magazine turned out.
This is a kit recipe of which I bought the ingredients separately (Northy 12 by Northern Brewer).
I'm bottling this today either with 5oz or with whatever amount I check out on the priming calculator.

Recipe OG: 1.090 [Actual: 1.098] recipe IBU: 40
6# Pilsen malt syrup
1# Pilsen DME
Return wort to boil and start the 60-minute clock
1 oz Brewer’s Gold hops, 60 min
1 oz Hallertau hops, 30 min
1 oz Styrian Goldings, 15 min
3.15# Gold malt syrup, 15 min
1# Gold DME, 15 min
2# D-180 Candi syrup, 15 min
1/2t yeast nutrients (my addition to the recipe), 15 min
2 packs of T-58.

Wow! Looks good.
Mine came in around10% ABV which makes me happy. I got 37, 16oz bottles. I tasted it from the bottling bucket, expecting it to taste fairly nasty though it wouldn't have bothered me. But, I swear, if it was carbonated and chilled, I would like it a LOT. I did not expect that.
Did you do an all-grain or extract?
