Need a whirlpool option. Would something like this work?

Certainly should work.

This is my setup. Top port is now removed as my immersion chiller has a whirlpool arm on it.

You find much difference whirlpooling with an IC in vs. out as far as sludge piles go?

I use the bottom port pictured on bottom and a J arm on my IC to get the whirlpool going. Seems to be plenty effective for me. On really hoppy beers I try to whirlpool for 30 minutes and let it sit for another 30 before offing it into the better bottle
