Welding 1/2" Couplers, What punch size?

So i was planning on drilling out all my holes, but honestly drilling out like 9 or 10 holes in my pots sounds exausting and i'd rather just buy a punch and then resell it after..

If the couplers are going to be welded flush with the outside of the pot, do i just need a punch that makes 1/2" holes?

The internal diameter of 1/2" fittings is 7/8". Also you can measure the outside diamter of the coupling and get a punch that size.

external is 7/8in

1/2" couplers actually have an OD of between 1" and 1-1/8" depending on the casting weight.

Ended up using 7/8 hole saw, buddy was able to face weld all the couplers and everything came out great.
