Ive got one of each and I don't care for the one with the barb....Every time you clean your setup the hose end gets worse and worse until you have to cut it back

I had the same thoughts that the barbed one would be nice, (thats why i got it and not one requiring a beer nut.) I was wrong, don't like it much at all wish I had gotten the regular type.

wouldn't the hose have to be clean off of the barb whether it is a welded on or not? So your hose would be pulled off and begin to fall apart regardless. edit: Is a beer line always connected by a barb?

I just thought if there's no seam between tailpiece and shank, there wouldn't be taking apart and cleaning besided where the hose hits the barb

I've got the shanks with welded barbs on my keezer and they clean up fine. My 2-tap kegerator has welded barbs on the tower shanks too.

I really don't think it matters...

I always worry when I'm trying to make big purchases even though it probably doesn't matter. Think I'm going ss whether i can find welded shanks or not. Need to serve wine or cidar sometime in the future so i need a metal that can handle everything
