I'm throwing a new years party tonight for the last few years me and my friends have been having some huge turnouts for our bbq and keg party's on new years but it looks like the turnout is going to be small this year me and my wife had moved into a smaller house so we just invited our close friends but many of them may not make it. the problem is i had ordered a keg of zieggen bock 1/2 barrel and i have no kegerater just a trash can and a hand pump and i hate to see all this brew go to waste im almost thinking of getting a refund. i wonder if i can bottle it in 2 litter bottles later and pitch some yeast and sugar to try to salvage some ok beer?

Is it to much of a hassle to just kee the Keg on ice until it's empty?

I juist saw that you are in Texas. How hot is it there in the Winter? I still like the idea of keeping it on ice until it's empty.

its 73f here .i was thinking of storing away the left over beer if there is a lot and some how re carbing if possible? i dont have a co2 rig my friend does but the left town today

Why couldn"t you just fill and cap sanitized bottles? The Beer is already carbed, and if capped immediately, i wouldnt think it would loose co2 would it? I'm not sure, but it would be worth a shot instead of wasting that much beer:eek:

Well it's not just keeping it cold that matters. The hand pump pushes outside air into the keg which will oxidize the beer fairly quickly, like 24 hours. If it were me, I'd either return it and get a smaller keg, drink myself into oblivion, or else go out and buy a CO2 tank, regulator and a sanke hookup.

oblivion, Oblivion, OBLIVION!!!!! :drunk:

Too bad I already said I'd be somewhere tonight or I'd come help you empty it

Might be best to ask if you can return it. That's a lot of beer and it would be a travesty to leave it in a hand-pumped keg for more than a night. You could probably bottle it too. It's already carbonated with CO2 right? The hand pumps just put in oxygen but it's not really absorbed instantly. I'd just fill the bottles up with very little airspace and cap em.

that's just what i did with about 5 bottles I had caught a cold and had no desire to try them lately but. anyway the party's over i had at least 10 people over and still have 3/4 a keg left I know its still carbonated a little because i pushed in the ball at the top today and it squirted beer out at least a few feet I put the keg in the back of my garage. maybe I can bottle more for the homeless?

II still have this full keg in my garage I suppose I could just distill the crap to somhing better but the hops key impait bad flavors? im tanking Ill just cut the top off and convert into a brew kettle
