I purchased this one that they have on clearance the other day. When I went to use it for the first time it wouldn't light and I never smelled gas when I turned both the tank on and the regulator. Any ideas?

I followed the instructions from the manual.
The tank has propane in it.

Thanks!

Also, if it's like mine, there's a button you have to hold to bypass the thermocouple while lighting. Don't press the button, no gas.

Revvy - I didn't see a place to put in batterys.

I tried to push that button but it was very tight. Is it suppose to "click" on?

Is it this turkey fryer kit, the 'King Kooker?"

The batteries go in the little gray box where you have to push that button, by where you hook it up to the propane tank.

Flip it over and look iirc for a little screw, or on the sides. It holds 2 double a batteries.

this is the one I have....I did the turkey pot burner mod. its really simple...took me like 5 or so minutes from start to finish to remove the timer and safety shut off sensor. there is a thread on here somewhere with pics on your exact burner and how to mod it like me. Or you can youtube it. happy trails.

Edit. Found it. I'll try tmrw

Looks almost identical to mine...

Turn on the timer (in the future, crack that box open and take the timer right out of the circuit - it's a pain in the butt to have to remember to reset the timer throughout the boil), press and hold down the copper colored button that's just above where the timer box hangs off the rest of the burner, turn on the gas and light the burner. Once the burner has been lit for a couple seconds, you can release the button and let the thermocouple do its thing on its own.

Well, I figured out the problem after buying another turkey fryer that actually didn't work but I realized that I was pressing the incorrect button to get the Walmart turkey fryer to start.

Thanks for the help Revvy.

You really should do the mod though bro. I actually am brewing right now...10.5 gallons of SH Pale Ale with Summit Hops. It's nice to be able to walk into the house and do something other than worry about thew stupid timer or the interlock turning off the gas for whatever reason.

Found this thread as I was looking for information on this unit. Here's a link to the YouTube mod :

Hi! I'm a new member today. I was looking up info on my wal-mart cooker and saw your post! I played with my cooker for 20 min ,before I read the dir. When you hook up the gas line you have the regulator nob faseing up. and where the line goes into the burner ,there are 2 screws on the burner that you loosen then u have to close the airflow vent to adjust. mine is almost closed. Turn on timer nob on burner or you won't get any gas to burner! I used a propane tourch to lite it open reg.valve and hold down button till u hear gas flo,( little flo) hold torch over burner and keep button down.when it lights keep button down & adjust regulator & airflo vent.(have another pair of hands at first) when you let go of button and it keeps running you can adjust heat. I love mine! Lobsters tonight!!
