The wife picked up some of these 22 oz. Flip top bottles at a local discount store.

$.89 each. She got 5. I'm gonna send her back tomorrow for more! :fro:

Nice score! The bottles alone are worth twice that, and the root beer inside is quite tolerable as well!

You got a good wife.

Another member awaiting response on where the bottles were found...

Are the tops plastic or ceramic?

Wow--empty Grolsch bottles go for at least a buck apiece around here when you can find them, and they're only 15oz.

edit--another thought-- Oxyclean should take care of the root beer smell.

I would guess that nothing is going to get the rootbeer out of the rubber gaskets. Still a good deal though.

Yeah I'm gonna try to soak them in oxyclean, and if that doesn't work I'll just get some new gaskets.

I read in another forum in order to get out the root beer smell was to add a tablespoon of baking soda into a bottle filled with hot water. Shake vigorously then soak for several hours then rinse with cold water. I have done this with some plastic A&W bottles. So far no odor and no problems.

BTW in the OP I said they were 22oz. I thought it said 1 Pint 8oz which would actually be 24oz!

Upon closer inspection it actually says 1 pint .8oz (500ml) so yeah, they are 160z.

Still good deal though!

My local Wally World AND my LHBS are listed as dealers for this stuff! Why have I never heard of Virgil's before?

You know, I sense a plan here--if you have non-drinking friends, turn them on to Virgil's and you have a steady supply of swingtops and used mini-kegs!

Also, for all you Gluten-Free folks out there, they had 8oz. packages of Bob's Red Mill Xanthum Gum.

These are about $13 bucks at Henry's (Wild Oats) ..... .$.89!!!

My wife got a bunch of those. I don't think we'll ever have to buy Xanthum Gum again!!

I see that it is listed at being at a few stores in my area that haven't been arond for over 5 years.. the list is not very up to date.
