So, I bought some Vinyl tubing to transfer wort/beer.. will that work? or does it have to be a certain grade or a certain composition? if not what kind of tubing should I buy?

What did you buy and from where?? I would just make sure it's food safe before using it... The stuff you get from the LHBS, or most of the online vendors (posting here) is safe to use. No idea if you picked it up from Homeless Depot... It could be safe, but I've never used it with brewing.

I've never used that stuff, so I can't really say it's safe, or not. I will say the stuff from the LHBS is safe (or better be) for this application... Without being able to compare labels, it's hard to say.

I will say, peace of mind is worth far more... If anyone mentions an off flavor your mind will first go to that tubing. Even if it's ok, it would stick in my mind forever. Or at least until it was all used up...

If it's the right size, you could use it for blow-off tubing. ;)

Hot wort will make that tubing very soft.

I assumed the wort would be chilled before he tried to transfer it. Wort that's too warm will also either crack, shatter, or melt your carboy/primary (glass/plastic carboy or plastic bucket)... Stainless steel fermenters just chuckle... :rockin:

sparge temps will do it too

The stuff from home depot is for water lines on dishwashers, refrigerators, etc. It's the same stuff you are buying at your lhbs.

thats exactly what i thought...just picked up 20ft for 5 bucks too, so i should be good for a while between racking , bottling and blowoff

I use the stuff from hd. I can't tell you if it's safe or not but the stuff at the LHBS doesn't have a label saying food grade.

I can't tell you to use it but I do and i feel ok about it.
