Using stainless steel shower hose for a Mash Tun

Hi All
I'm just deciding how to build my Mash Tun (Manifold, SS or False Bottom), I did some thinking during my shower :cross: and i suddenly looked at the shower hose, it is stainless steel, flexible, very strong (probably will not crush), come with a connectors, only thing left is to make holes/slots in it.
What do you think will it work? Anyone ever tried it?

Could work, but make sure that whatever you use is actually SS. A lot of them are Nickel or Chrome plated to sorta look SS like.
Its also going to be quite a bit more expensive than just buying a 12" Toilet braid for $5 at Home depot. The braids are nice because they have a ton of small holes, something you cant really replicate by hand. It makes it much more difficult to get a fully blocked sparge, sure it can get slow but rarely if ever do i get a fully stuck mash.

Actually it is almost same price , but you are correct maybe during the hole making I will uncover some nasty unwanted materials to my beer.

And how do you keep it in place and not crashing ? With a hand made spring? Or you have some other idea?

You can coil solid core copper wire into a spring. I believe I used 16 gauge wire on mine. It keeps it from being crushed, but I haven't had that problem with my first one even with 15 lbs of grain and 5 gallons of sparge water on top of it.

Ive never had mine crushed even full with 20# of grain for a RIS.

You have to remember that a majority of the liquid is coming through the front 1/2-1 inch of the braid anyways, so crushing that would would take quite a bit of work since its so closed to your connections.
